Owner - World-Wide Shipping Managers Pte Ltd. TFC-01 had slot in connection
for the Tape Header Assembly and no facility to adjust Slope for the
temperature measuring system.
VLCC Charles Eddie at Ninbo,
China. Owner - Wallen Shipmanagement HK. Problem with temperature
readings at two points. Four sets of probes with VR relocated to
the end of
the probe tube was brought to Ninbo to replace the problematic
ones. Adjustment at two points were done on board the vessel before
discharging
cargo. M/T Nidia was passing by Singapore.
Owner - Great Eastern Shipping Co. India. Tape was found broken, cut
by deck valve and probe was old design at 400 Hz. Changed to new probe
of 2 MHz.
M/T MONTIRON at
Istanbul, Turkey. Owner - Seaarland Shipping SA. We did the commissioning of
our Service Center for Turkey, at the same time gave them training
on the job. The fault was with the tape OEM, the steel expands at temperatures
of above 60şC and cause a short-circuit between the ground and the
power supply to the probe. The fuse on the Display PCB were blown and
some of the 4 tapes were cut by deck valve. |

Luck at
Singapore. Owner - World-Wide Shipping Pte Ltd. TFS-01 was used for
the crude oil. This system uses the Tape Cleaning Wiper of the old
design, this was ineffective and the operator takes out the window
glass and clean it manually. |

Selendang Sari at Singapore.
Owner - IMC Shipping Pte Ltd. Chemical Tanker using the TFC-01
PMS. The Graduated Tape Plates melted due to the Aromatic fluid
which melts the two guide plates of ABS material inside the
rewinding chamber. The guide plates were immediately changed
to Nylon coated Aluminum. Two weeks later, all the Graduated
Tape Plates were replaced with this material. |

Singapore - Owner IMC Shipping Pte Ltd Chemical tanker, tape was
broken, Graduated Tape Plates melted with Chemicals. System was
completely jammed, cannot be unwind or rewind, Tanktech took two
weeks to get the metal plates done. |

- Owner Seaarland Shipping SA. Same supply of tapes to this sister ship,
which was built in a Korean yard. I flew down from Istanbul to UAE, Dubai
and went on board before loading cargo. Changed two tapes and 1 sensor,
adjusted temperature to correct reading, as compared with Digital Thermometer. |

There is no physical sign of a cut on the tape, conductor simply stretched
and snapped.
Found tape kinks near the head. Replaced Tape Plates with Stainless Steel

The PMS is of new model, TFC-02 with 2-inch probe and backlight LCD display.
The Tape Cleaning Wiper has two flanges, one in front,
and one at back of the Wiper Assembly. The cause of kinks at the tape
was due to the reverse turning of wiper knob.

 Service and supply of spare tape header assembly
for the sampler. Calibration was done on incremental
steps of 5 Degree Celsius from the lowest point at 20 C to the highest
at 70 C. Readings were taken prior to any adjustments, and the errors
in the readings were also taken in consideration and Zero and Gain adjustments
are done at the same time. The zero to offset a consistent error and
the gain to offset an increasing or decreasing error.

| TIJIT Pte Ltd, the Singapore A/S Service Center has
identified the problem with the Tape Cleaning Wiper and through our findings
and proposal, the wiper has all come with a stopper and indicator to say
"STOP" at 12 o'clock position.

Tanker 45396 DWT. Fault- tape yellow wire was cut by the deck valve near
40CM.
Work done on board the vessel: Cleaned inside part of Tape Cleaning Wiper,
installed stopper at the wiper.
